Is the image uploaded to a server?
No. Flipping happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.
What's the difference between horizontal and vertical flip?
Horizontal flip mirrors the image left-to-right (like a mirror). Vertical flip mirrors it top-to-bottom (upside-down). Apply both together to get a 180° rotation effect.
When should I use flip instead of rotate?
Use flip when you want a mirror image (useful for selfies, text reversal, or symmetry compositions). Use rotate when you want to turn the image without mirroring. They give different results — a flipped face is mirrored; a rotated face just changes orientation.
What format do I get back?
The same format as your input (JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WEBP stays WEBP). AVIF inputs come back as PNG since browsers can't write AVIF yet.
Does flipping reduce image quality?
No. Flipping is a lossless pixel rearrangement — no resampling or recompression happens at the pixel level. JPG output is re-encoded at quality 0.92, which is visually identical to the original.
