PNG, JPG, or WEBP — a clear front-facing photo cropped to head and shoulders works best.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload your photo

A clear, front-facing photo, cropped to head and shoulders first. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

  2. 2

    Pick size & background

Choose your country size and white or light-blue background; AI removes the old background and fits your photo onto that size.

  3. 3

    Download & check

Download the JPG and check it against your official requirements before printing or uploading.

Guide: making a passport or visa photo that is ready to use

What the maker produces

The tool runs an AI background-removal model in your browser to separate you from whatever is behind you. It then places the cut-out on a plain background, either white or light blue, at one of three sizes: India 35x45 mm (413 by 531 pixels), US 2x2 inch (600 by 600 pixels) or Schengen 35x45 mm (also 413 by 531 pixels). These pixel sizes correspond to roughly 300 dots per inch at the printed size. The result is saved as a JPG at quality 0.95 and named passport-photo.jpg.

The first run downloads the background-removal model, about 45 MB, which the browser then caches. Your photo is processed on your device and is not uploaded. You get one photo per download, not a print sheet with several copies.

It does not crop to your face

The maker does not detect your face or measure your head. It takes your whole photo, minus the background, scales it to fit inside 92 percent of the canvas, and centres it. If you upload a half-length or full-length photo, you will get a small figure in the middle of the frame, which most authorities will reject.

So crop first. Open the Crop tool and frame from just above the top of your head to the top of your shoulders, keeping your face in the centre. Use a 1:1 crop for the US size, and a portrait crop close to 35:45 for the India and Schengen sizes. Official rules usually say how much of the photo the head should fill, so check yours and crop to match.

Taking a photo that is likely to be accepted

  • Face the camera directly with a neutral expression, eyes open and mouth closed.
  • Use even, soft light from the front. Shadows on one side of the face are a common reason for rejection.
  • Ask someone else to take the photo from about an arm's length or more, at eye level, instead of holding a selfie close.
  • Keep hair away from the eyes and avoid glare on glasses; many authorities ask you to remove them.
  • Wear clothing that contrasts with a white background, and stand a little away from the wall so the edges of your hair and shoulders are clear.
  • Do not retouch or smooth the face. Official photos need an unaltered likeness.

Printing it or uploading it to a form

For a print, give the file to a photo shop and ask for it at the exact physical size, for example 35 by 45 mm. If you want several copies on one 4 by 6 inch sheet, the shop or a layout app has to arrange them, since this tool makes a single photo.

For online applications, check the portal's own pixel and KB limits. Resize the photo with the Image Resizer if the dimensions differ, then reduce the file with Compress to Size or Compress to 20 KB. For exam forms, the Exam Photo Size tool covers common requirements.

Check the result before you use it

Zoom into the downloaded photo. Look for a thin outline of the old background around the hair, ears or shoulders, and for parts of your clothing that were cut away by mistake. The choice between white and light blue also matters: check which colour the document you are applying for requires. The tool gives you the right size and a plain background, but acceptance also depends on pose, lighting and the authority's current rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

What passport photo sizes are supported?

Three sizes are built in: India 35×45mm (413×531 px), US 2×2in (600×600 px) and Schengen 35×45mm (413×531 px). The tool fits your whole photo onto that canvas — it does not detect or crop to your face, so crop to head and shoulders first with the Crop tool.

Does it set a plain background automatically?

Yes. It removes your existing background with AI and places you on a plain white or light-blue background, all in your browser. Check which colour your document requires.

Will the photo be accepted officially?

The tool gives you a photo at the selected pixel size with a plain background, but acceptance depends on head size, pose, lighting and expression following your authority's rules. Always check the official requirements for your document.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser — your photo never leaves your device.
