Requirements change with each notification — always confirm against the official notice linked on each page.

How to read these requirements

A form can limit three different things, and an upload is rejected if any one of them is wrong:

  • File size (KB) — how much space the file takes. Most portals give a range, such as 20–50 KB; a file that is too small is rejected just like one that is too big.
  • Pixel dimensions — the width and height of the image, such as 200 × 230 px. Some exams give pixels, others only centimetres.
  • Physical size (cm) — the shape of a printed passport photo, such as 3.5 × 4.5 cm. On screen this mainly fixes the aspect ratio; our tool converts it to pixels and says when the pixels are our conversion.

Live photo instead of an upload

SSC and RRB NTPC no longer accept an uploaded photo: the application takes a live photo with your webcam or phone. UPSC, IBPS, NEET, JEE Main and CUET take a live photo in addition to the uploaded one. For a live photo, sit facing a window or lamp, use a plain light wall behind you, remove caps and glasses unless the notice allows them, and keep your whole face inside the guide on screen.

Why uploads get rejected

  • The file is outside the KB range — often too small for signatures scanned on white paper.
  • The photo is stretched to fit the size instead of being cropped to the right shape.
  • A coloured or patterned background, shadows on the face, or a photo of a photo.
  • A signature in capital letters, in the wrong ink colour, or too faint to read.
  • The wrong format, such as PNG or an iPhone HEIC photo where JPG is required.

Tips for a clean result

  1. Start from a sharp, well-lit photo on a plain white or light background.
  2. Sign with a black pen on plain white paper and photograph or scan it straight on.
  3. Open your exam page above, choose the upload type, and use zoom and position so the face or signature fills the frame.
  4. Download the file and check the size shown before uploading it to the form. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded to us.
