SSC Photo & Signature Size 2026

SSC no longer accepts an uploaded photo: the application captures a live photo through your camera. The only image you prepare in advance is your signature, which must be a 10–20 KB JPG.

Rules for each upload

Photo

  • The application captures a live photo through your camera; you do not upload a photo file.
  • Sit in good light against a plain background, camera at eye level, looking straight ahead.
  • Keep your face fully inside the marked area. No cap, mask or glasses.
  • Taking a photo of an existing photograph leads to rejection.

Signature

  • Scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format, 10–20 KB.
  • About 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. Blurred or very small signatures are rejected.

Before you apply

  • Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new site ssc.gov.in — OTR done on the old ssc.nic.in is not valid.
  • SSC does not give pixel dimensions; the tool makes a 480 × 160 px file, which matches the 6 × 2 cm shape.
  • Your appearance at the exam must match the live photo captured in the application.

How to prepare and upload your SSC files, step by step

  1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in. A registration made on the old ssc.nic.in site does not carry over.
  2. Sign on plain white paper with a black ink pen. Make the signature a normal, comfortable size, because very small signatures are rejected.
  3. Scan the sheet, or photograph it flat in daylight with the phone held steady, so the strokes are sharp and not blurred.
  4. In the tool above there is only one tab, Signature, because SSC does not take an uploaded photo. Add your scan, zoom in until the signature fills the 6 × 2 cm frame and tick "Make the paper pure white".
  5. Click "Make file". The tool saves a 480 × 160 px JPG between 10 and 20 KB, which matches the 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm shape in the notice. Download it once the size shows ✓.
  6. Before opening the CGL or CHSL application, set up for the live photo: good light, a plain background behind you and the camera at eye level.
  7. When the form asks for the photo, remove any cap, mask or glasses, look straight ahead and keep your face fully inside the marked area. Do not hold a printed photograph up to the camera.
  8. Upload the signature file in the application, then preview the form before you submit it.
  9. On exam day, look the way you did in the live photo, because your appearance is matched against it.

Why SSC uploads get rejected — and how to fix each one

  • Blurred signature. Fix: Rescan in good light with the paper flat and the camera still, sign with black ink, and make the file again in the Signature tab.
  • Signature too small inside the image. Fix: Zoom in so the signature fills the 6 × 2 cm frame from edge to edge, then remake the 480 × 160 px file.
  • Signature file outside 10–20 KB. Fix: Let the tool set the JPEG quality; small files are padded up to 10 KB without changing the image.
  • Live photo taken with a cap, mask or glasses, or with the face outside the marked area. Fix: Remove them, sit at eye level with the camera and keep your whole face inside the box before capturing.
  • Live photo taken of an existing photograph. Fix: This leads to rejection. Let the camera capture you directly in good light against a plain background.
  • Registration done on the old ssc.nic.in website. Fix: That OTR is not valid; create a new One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in and apply from there.

SSC final checklist before you submit

  • OTR completed on ssc.gov.in (not the old ssc.nic.in).
  • Signature: JPG/JPEG, 10–20 KB, about 6.0 × 2.0 cm, sharp and not too small.
  • Camera working, good light and a plain background ready for the live photo.
  • No cap, mask or glasses when the photo is captured.
  • Face fully inside the marked area, looking straight ahead.
  • Same appearance planned for exam day as in the live photo.
  • Limits re-checked in the CGL or CHSL notice you are applying under.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload a photo for SSC CGL 2026?

No. The SSC application module captures a live photo with your camera. You only upload your signature.

What is the SSC signature size?

JPG/JPEG, 10 KB to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high, according to the CGL and CHSL 2026 notices.

Why is my SSC signature rejected?

Usually because it is outside 10–20 KB, blurred, or too small. Sign clearly in black ink on white paper, crop close to the signature and make the file again.

Can I use my old SSC registration from ssc.nic.in?

No. One-Time Registration done on the old ssc.nic.in website is not valid; register again on ssc.gov.in before applying for CGL or CHSL.

Can I wear glasses for the SSC live photo?

No. The CGL and CHSL 2026 notices say no cap, mask or glasses while the live photo is taken, with your face kept inside the marked area.
