Rules for each upload

Photo

  • A live photo is captured by webcam or phone front camera; you do not upload a photo file.
  • Pure plain white background; wear non-white, preferably dark, plain clothing covering shoulders and chest.
  • Your head must fill at least 50% of the photo. No cap, mask or glasses; eyes fully open.
  • Photographing a printed or on-screen photo leads to rejection.

Signature

  • Black ink on white paper, signed by the candidate only.
  • Running (cursive) handwriting — not block, capital or disjointed letters.
  • Scan at 100 DPI or more; JPG/JPEG, between 30 KB and 49 KB.
  • Centre the signature within a 35 mm × 20 mm box.

Before you apply

  • Regional RRB websites now redirect to the unified portal rrb.indianrailways.gov.in.
  • The tool makes a 280 × 160 px signature (the 35 × 20 mm box at about 200 DPI), which is above the 140 × 60 px minimum.
  • If your live photo does not match your photo ID, the notice asks for Annexure VIII signed by a Gazetted Officer.

How to prepare and upload your RRB NTPC files, step by step

  1. Open the CEN you are applying under — 06/2026 (Graduate) or 07/2026 (Under-Graduate) — on the unified portal rrb.indianrailways.gov.in and read para 14.4–14.5.1. Regional RRB sites now redirect there.
  2. Sign on white paper in black ink, in your own running (cursive) handwriting. Block letters, capital letters or separated letters are not accepted, and nobody else may sign for you.
  3. Scan the signature at 100 DPI or more.
  4. In the tool above, use the Signature tab — it is the only one, because the photo is taken live. Tick "Make the paper pure white" and use the sliders to place the signature in the centre of the frame, which stands for the 35 mm × 20 mm box.
  5. Click "Make file". The tool makes a 280 × 160 px JPG (above the 140 × 60 px minimum) and aims for 30–49 KB. If the scan is light, it pads the file up to 30 KB without changing the picture.
  6. Look at the result before downloading: the size must be 49 KB or less, not 50 KB, and must show ✓.
  7. Prepare for the live photo: a pure plain white wall behind you, non-white (preferably dark) plain clothes covering shoulders and chest, no cap, mask or glasses, and eyes fully open.
  8. When the form opens the webcam or phone front camera, move close enough that your head fills at least half of the frame, and never point the camera at a printed or on-screen photo.
  9. Upload the signature, submit, and keep a photo ID that matches your look. If the live photo and the ID do not match, the notice asks for Annexure VIII signed by a Gazetted Officer.

Why RRB NTPC uploads get rejected — and how to fix each one

  • Signature file of 50 KB. Fix: The upper limit is 49 KB. Make the file again; the tool targets the 30–49 KB range exactly.
  • Signature below 30 KB. Fix: RRB has a 30 KB minimum. Rescan at 100 DPI or more, or let the tool pad the file with blank metadata up to 30 KB.
  • Signature in block, capital or disjointed letters. Fix: Sign in your normal running (cursive) hand and scan again.
  • Signature in blue ink or on coloured paper. Fix: The notice asks for black ink on white paper. Sign again and tick "Make the paper pure white" in the tool.
  • Signature pushed into one corner of the 35 × 20 mm box. Fix: Use the position sliders to centre it before clicking "Make file".
  • Live photo with white clothes, a cap, mask or glasses, or with the head filling less than half of the frame. Fix: Change into dark plain clothes, remove the cap, mask and glasses, and move closer to the camera against the white background.
  • Live photo taken of a printed or on-screen photo. Fix: This leads to rejection. Let the camera capture you directly.

JPG/JPEG between 30 KB and 49 KB, at least 140 × 60 pixels, scanned at 100 DPI or more, in black ink and cursive writing.

Do I upload a photo for RRB NTPC 2026?

No. The photo is captured live by webcam or phone during the application.

My signature file is only 12 KB. What do I do?

RRB needs at least 30 KB. The tool adds harmless blank metadata to small files so they reach the minimum without changing the picture.

No. The background must be pure plain white, so the notice asks for non-white, preferably dark, plain clothing that covers your shoulders and chest.

What if my RRB live photo does not match my photo ID?

The notice asks for Annexure VIII, signed by a Gazetted Officer, in that case. Read the paragraph on it in your CEN before you go to the exam.
