How does the PDF compression work?
Each page is re-saved as an optimised image and the PDF is rebuilt at a smaller size. This works very well for scanned and image-heavy PDFs. Because pages become images, selectable text is flattened, so a pure-text PDF may not shrink much.
Which compression level should I use?
Start with Recommended for a good balance. Use Light if quality matters most, or Strong if you need the smallest possible file (for example to fit an email or upload limit).
Why is my compressed PDF not smaller?
If your PDF is already highly compressed or is mostly plain text, there may be little to save — try the Strong level. This tool shines on large scanned documents and PDFs full of photos.
